PERHAM - New Ulm VFW Gold took second place in the Perham tournament on Sunday, losing to Park Center, 6-3 in the championship game. Tanner Kluis was the losing pitcher, going six innings.
In the semi-final game on Sunday, Gold defeated East Grand Forks 13-3. Chase Meyer threw complete game for the pitching win.
Gold, whose season record is 18-4, meets Sleepy Eye No. 1 at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday at Mueller Park in New Ulm.
In Saturday action, Gold won two games, defeating Mahtomedi, 13-2 and East Grand Forks, 5-0.
In Saturday first game, Gold beat Mahtomedi 13-2 in six innings. Judd Davis and Tyler Dittrich had three hits each. Brach Kraus and Jarin Spence each added two hits with Davis, Kraus, and Spence driving in two runs each. Spence had two doubles.
Collin Helget was the winning pitcher. He threw a complete game, allowing one earned run and striking out five.
In Saturday's second game, Gold beat East Grand Forks 5-0.
Davis had two hits and two runs scored. Kluis had two RBI. Wyatt Peterson threw 6 1/3 innings of no-hit ball, finishing with a complete game shutout and throwing seven strikeouts.
