NEW ULM - Burnsville entered the 2012 Upper Midwest Classic as the No. one ranked American Legion baseball team in Minnesota, and it did nothing to lose that ranking when it topped Rosetown 7-2 to win the 32nd Annual Classic on Sunday at Johnson Park.
Burnsville jumped to a 2-1 lead in the first inning and tacked on three more runs in the fifth inning.
Burnsvillle used an error and a Matt Stamper RBI single in the first inning for two runs that countered a 1-0 Rosetown lead.
A Tyler Hanson double and a Justin Threlkeld single in the third inning made it a 3-1 game. Stamper collected his second RBI of the game before he scored on a Luke Chinn single for a 5-1 lead.
Rosetown's Dan Busch's sacrifice fly cut the lead to 5-2 in the fourth inning.
Burnsville countered with a run in the bottom of the inning when Bo Hellquist singled in a run.
Burnsville added a run in the sixth inning on one of five errors committed by Rosetown.
Burnsvillle earned entry into the title game when it defeated Eastview 9-7.
