NEW ULM - Harvey Schaefer, 83, of New Ulm, died Sunday, July 1, 2012, at Oak Hills living Center in New Ulm.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 7, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm with Monsignor John A. Richter officiating. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.

Harvey is survived by his wife of 64 years, Viola Schaefer of New Ulm; a daughter, Diane Becken of New Ulm; granddaughters, Jennifer Gall of Mankato, Katherine Becken of Houston, Texas, Jessica Schaefer and Crystal Markfort, both of St. Cloud; nine great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Esther Schaefer of New Ulm and by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Schaefer in 1994; son-in-law, Bryan Becken in 2005; sister, Eunice Dolly; and by a brother, Harold Schaefer.
Harvey Francis Schaefer was born August 13, 1928 in Cottonwood Township Brown County to Francis and Lillian (Manderfeld) Schaefer. He was united in marriage to Viola Brueske on October 22, 1947 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. After marriage Harvey was employed at Wear-Well Garment Company for 22 years, then Skyline Manufacturing for 12 years, Adams Car Wash and then as a carpenter with his son David. Harvey enjoyed playing sheephead, fishing, woodworking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. He especially enjoyed his daily visits with his neighbor Paul Hillesheim.
He was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm and the St. John's Court #698 of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the donor's choice.
