ESSIG - The Essig Bluejays used a strong start from Mark Giesen to edge Redwood Falls 4-2 on Wednesday in a Tomahawk East amateur baseball match-up.
Giesen earned the win after eight innings of work, in which he struck out eight and allowed two hits and two runs (one earned). Ted Mohr pitched the ninth inning to earn the save, striking out one and allowing one hit.
Jason Schmitz (2-for-4, run, stolen base), Kyle Krzmarzick (RBI) and Jory Dove (RBI) paced Essig's offense in the game.
John Jenniges took the loss for the Redbirds in a complete-game effort. Bryan Bierl led the team's offense by going 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Essig (10-7) will host Leavenworth at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
