NEW ULM - In an effort to maintain the Brown County Free Fair and add a few new wrinkles this year, the public is invited to the Get in the Fair Spirit Fun Night, 4-9 p.m., Tuesday, July 3 in the fairgrounds exhibit hall.
Dain's Dutchmen will perform free old-time music from 4 to 6 p.m. followed by country and bluegrass by Dick and Ian Kimmel from 7 to 9 p.m. Food including Happy Joe's Pizza and nachos, corn dogs, foot longs, funnel cakes, kettle corn, beer and other beverages will be available from 4 to 9 p.m.
"We want people to know we're planning to have a great fair this year. Everyone who wants to see a good fair is urged to show up," said Brown County Free Fair President Lucy Gluth. "We're not cutting back on any events in spite of the fact that our fair funds are limited this year. We're hoping the fund-raiser will help offset early expenses with booking events and entertainment."
Gluth said new fair features this year include vertical "dock" dog jumping including Bob Sorenson and his lab "Shadow" of New Ulm who have won just about every competition they have entered in recent years.
Dockdog jumping will be featured Friday through Sunday, Aug. 10-12.
Other new fair features are mini rods that will be part of the Sunday tractor pulling contest, the Concord Singers, Trisha and the Toonies plus Alfy and the Robotic puppet shows plus a University of Minnesota Raptor Center presentation, Ken & Ken and the Bockfest Boys.
