The New Ulm Fire Department was named the VFW Fire Department of the Year at the organization's state meeting held last Saturday in Rochester. New Ulm VFW Post and Auxiliary1648 nominated the local department. Commander Wil Burdorf said he believes the award was given to NUFD for its excellent training programs and its effective response to July 2, 2011, fire at the Bohemian Bed and Breakfast.
