16U Hotshots sweep Maple River

MAPLETON - The New Ulm Red 16U Hotshots softball team earned a doubleheader sweep against Maple River on Tuesday, winning the first game 7-2 and the second game 10-1.

Kristin Mohr earned the win in Game 1 for New Ulm, allowing two runs and four hits. Patty Gruber (2-for-3, RBI), Shaina Widmer (2-for-3, RBI) and Abby Kamm (3-for-4, two RBI, two runs) paced the Hotshots' offense in the game.

Kamm was the winning pitcher in Game 2, allowing one run and four hits. New Ulm's leading batters in the game were Briana Sieve (1-for-3), Hannah Backer (3-for-3) and Mohr (1-for-2).

The Hotshots (13-7) will play New Ulm Blue on Thursday at Harman Park.

So. Minn. Diamonds sweep

SLEEPY EYE - The Southern Minnesota Diamonds swept Waseca 7-5 and 10-6 Tuesday in 18U softball action.

Darcy Bottem earned the complete game win for the Diamonds. She was also 1-for-2 with two runs scored. Syney Remus was 1-for-1 with three runs scored and a home run.

In the second game, Sydney Schuck pitched six innings for the win. Veronica Sinell was 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored and Karlie Heiderscheidt was 3-for-3. Deonna Brinkmann was 2-for-3 with a home run.

The Diamonds (10-4) play the New Ulm 18s at 6 p.m. Thursday.
