NEW ULM - The Southern Minnesota Diamonds 18U softball team went 2-1 Sunday to finish third at the Windmill Classic.
The Diamonds opened Sunday's play with a 13-2 win over the Mankato Peppers. Sydney Schuck earned the complete-game win for New Ulm, allowing three hits and striking out six.
Darcy Bottem was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and Sydney Remus was 3-for-3 with a three-run home run in the first inning. Schuck was 2-for-3 with two runs and Morgan Schwarz was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
In the second game, the Diamonds ran into Minnesota Edge for the second day in a row and lost once again, this time in a 3-2, international-rule loss.
Bottem took the loss for the Diamonds. She went the distance, allowing six hits and striking out two. Mandee Heiderscheidt was 2-for-4 and Karlie Heiderscheidt was 3-for-3 with a run scored.
The Diamonds came back and beat Soderville 5-2 in the third-place game. Schuck earned the win, allowing six hits and she struck out four.
Heiderscheidt scored two runs and Schuck had two hits.
The Diamonds (8-4) host Waseca at 6 p.m. Tuesday in a doubleheader in Sleepy Eye.
