NEW ULM - Like the set up to a bad joke, the Kohls-Weelborg Chevrolet dealership in New Ulm suffered through two setbacks last month: a hail storm that damaged 30 to 40 vehicles followed the next week by 75 mph winds the blew out windows on 70 vehicles.

Kohls-Weelborg Chevrolet is hosting a sale of over 100 vehicles damaged by back-to-back hail and wind storms last month. The damage, estimated to cost $500 to $3,500 per vehicle, has been somewhat compensated for the sale fueling dramatic increases in vehicles sold.
But, the dealership is seeing some light at the end of the tunnel this week with a damaged vehicle sale that is ratcheting up their sales numbers.
Kohls-Weelborg sales manager Chris Schablin said the business has has great success selling the over 100 damaged vehicles at reduced prices for the last week. He said the dealership replaced all major damages, like blown out windows, before putting the vehicles up for sale. He said the reduced prices vary wildly based on the damage assessed against the vehicle. He estimated that the repairs have cost the dealership anywhere from $500 to $3,500 per vehicle.
Despite the gloomy news, he said that sales has helped them move more cars than they would have normally sold. In just the first week, the dealership has moved approximately 30 vehicles.
"We're getting buyers from all over. We're getting people coming from Iowa, South Dakota and Wisconsin because of the prices," said Schablin.
He estimated even the vehicles with minor price reductions were being sold faster than expected.
The sale is planned to continue until all the damaged vehicles have been sold off.
