Floyd H. Kienholz was born October 16, 1923 on the family farm in rural Bird Island, MN to Fred and Mary (Sharp) Kienholz. He graduated from Bird Island High School and then started his farming career. On June 4, 1949 he was united in marriage to Nina Kath at Minneapolis, MN. They lived and farmed at rural Bird Island, MN and were the parents of three children. Nina died in 2001 and Floyd married Shirley Wieman on August 31, 2002. Besides farming Floyd was a field man for Green Giant and sold Pioneer Seed. He was a faithful member of the Bird Island United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir for over 60 years, served on many boards and was a Sunday School Teacher. Floyd was gifted as a "well witcher" and assisted many in deciding where to dig their well. He had gardened ever since he was young and in later years enjoyed selling items at the Farmers Market in Willmar. Music was a huge part of his life as he sang at many funerals and weddings, was often listening to old-time, polka or waltz songs, and at dances he was highly sought after as a partner. Floyd also enjoyed reading, playing cards, hunting, fishing, and bowling. He truly loved softball as he continued to play the game well into his 50s, sponsored many teams, and continued to watch games for many years. His family fondly remembers his love for following his grandchildren's activities.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Shirley Kienholz of Bird Island; his three children, Douglas (and Denise) Kienholz of Bird Island, Robert Kienholz and his special friend Katherine Maddock of Olivia and Laura (and Lon) Duncanson of Mapleton, MN; his nine grandchildren, Kelly (and Dorothy) Kienholz, Jennifer (and Scott) Foley, Peter (and Kacy) Kienholz, Patrecia Olson, Jason (and Andrea) Kienholz, Jeff Kienholz, John (and Kristi) Kienholz, Callista Duncanson (and fianc Justin Fjerstad) and Andrew Duncanson; his twenty great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Arlene Kienholz; and by Shirley's children: Mary (and James) Wahl, James (and Sharon) Wieman and Daniel Wieman; her four grandchildren and her six great-grandchildren.
