Irene Eckstein, age 84, of Comfrey, died at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield on Tuesday, June 19, 2012.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church in Comfrey with burial at New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Thursday, June 21, from 4-8 p.m. at the Sturm Funeral Home in Comfrey. Visitation will continue on Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul Catholic Church in Comfrey.

Irene Anna Eckstein was born in Lafayette, MN on December 21, 1927, the daughter of Alfred and Caroline (Huss) Schaeffler. She attended and was confirmed at Cathedral Holy Trinity in New Ulm and also attended school at Hilltop District No. 53 in Nicollet County. She was united in marriage to Edward Eckstein on August 22, 1950 in New Ulm. Shortly after their marriage, Edward was drafted into the Army. Irene lived with her parents in New Ulm and worked at Purity White Castle Caf in New Ulm. Upon Edward's return in 1953, the couple farmed near Comfrey and retired in 1990. Irene worked side by side with Edward and raised pigs, chickens and enjoyed gardening, quilting, and sewing. Irene was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Comfrey, MN.
She is survived by her husband, Edward of Comfrey; and a cousin, Rita Sabatino of New Ulm, (who was an attendant in Edward and Irene's wedding).
Irene was preceded in death by her parents.
