SLEEPY EYE - The New Ulm Gold Legion baseball team kept Sleepy Eye at bay for a 5-1 victory Tuesday night.
Colin Wenninger pitched the first three innings for New Ulm, with four different relievers shutting down Sleepy Eye the rest of the way. Sean Mathiowetz (five innings pitched, five runs, three earned runs) took the loss for Sleepy Eye.
Zach Hoffmann (2-for-4), Jason Shaul (2-for-4, two RBI) and Jordan Guggisberg (3-for-4) led the way for Gold at the plate. Adam Sellner (2-for-3) and Mike Zinniel (1-for-1) paced Sleepy Eye's attack.
Sleepy Eye (1-2) will host Dassel-Cokato on Tuesday. New Ulm Gold will play at a weekend tournament in Grand Rapids, with play set to begin on Friday.
