To the editor:
Much has been written about Chammy the horse. When we moved to New Ulm in 1955, Chammy's caretaker's father led the parades on his horse. He was a dentist and father to Dr. Charles Hintz, a semi-retired oral surgeon who had served in the Navy as a dental technician attached to the Marine Corps as an enlisted man prior to dental college.
I had knee replacement surgery scheduled when a dentist noticed a suspicious spot under my tongue. I needed quick action by an oral surgeon or no knee surgery. Charlie saw me at his office on a cold December Sunday afternoon. His quick efforts allowed me to get the knee surgery as scheduled.
As a former Marine, I say, "Let this Navy veteran enjoy his semi-retirement with his beloved aged horse."
