NEW ULM - Charles Schmitz filed on Tuesday for re-election to the position of New Ulm City Councilor-at-large.
As councilor-at-large, Schmitz serves as City Council president.
Schmitz, a retired Gas Department supervisor for New Ulm Public Utilities, was first elected in 2008. IF elected, it will be his second term.

Schmitz said he has enjoyed the 3-1/2 years he has been serving on the council.
"The people of New Ulm have been really good to me," said Schmitz. "I don't get that many calls at home, but people will stop me in the store and say, 'I'm sorry to bother you, but can I talk to you about something?' And that's perfectly OK. That's their right."
Schmitz is one of four city councilors up for re-election. The terms of First Ward Councilor Ruth Ann Webster and Third Ward Councilor Les Schultz are up this year. Second Ward Councilor Lisa K. Fischer, appointed to replace Todd Olson until Dec. 31, will have to opportunity to fill out the unexpired portion of the term, which ends at the end of 2014, if she files.
