To the editor
and to the Community
of New Ulm:
This past Sunday, as many of you know, we welcomed home the Red Bulls. With this being Teacher Appreciation Week this is a perfect time to tell you how lucky our community is to have the teachers that we do.
My husband Aaron Wilfahrt was deployed for the last year leaving behing three young children. If it were not for my children's teachers, our past year here at home would have not been a success!
Our 5-year-old attends St.Paul's with Mrs.Schone. I knew sending her off each afternoon that she would be getting that extra hug that was missing here at home. Mrs. Schone made sure the whole class was involved in many ways so that our little girl knew and felt the support that was very much needed. Our first grader attends Jefferson Elementary. Ms.Wick, what can I say? The support you have shown along with the whole Jefferson staff has left me speechless. Breanna went to school each day knowing the loving doors she would walk into. She is becoming a sucessful reader during a year when she had enough stress to learn to deal with.
Then I think of Mrs.Yackley at Washington school. She has gone above and beyond her call of duty. Each month the class skyped with Aaron and learned about life in Kuwait. From the weather to the animals to eating MREs, she tied both bringing the class to understand Bradley's life without dad, to it being very educational. From checking in here at home when she could see Bradley was having a bad day to making sure he was getting extra help where he needed it to become a A student... she took this journey with us when she did not have too.
All these teachers made sacrifces for my family and thank you will never be enough.
I am proud to call New Ulm my home. I am extremely lucky to be surrounded with the schools that we have. It does take a community to raise children. With these teachers, my kids have flourished. Thank you.
