MORRIS - The Martin Luther College women's track and field team set a school record and had a number of other strong finishes as it took fourth place at the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at the University of Minnesota, Morris Saturday.
The Knights' 4x400-meter relay team took third place, but broke the school record with a time of 4:26.03. The relay team consisted of Lauren Maertz, Julie Kent, Erin Kelly and Hannah Hackbarth.
Emilee Koltz was the top individual finisher, taking second in the 5,000-meters with a time of 19:32.14.
Koltz was one of three MLC runners to finish in the top 10 in the 800-meters, finishing sixth with a time of 2:32.70. Hackbarth and Kent took seventh and ninth, respectively, in the 800, while Hackbarth also finished fourth in the 1,500-meters with a time of 5:15.29.
Maertz was the other top finisher individually in the running events, finishing fifth in the 200-meters with a time of 1:03.74.
In the field events, Kelly took fourth in the High Jump with a jump of 1.42 meters, while Elizabeth Murry finished sixth in the Shot Put and Javelin Throw, and also finished ninth in the Discus.
MLC finished the meet with 31 total points. St. Scholastica finished first with 338 points, while UM-Morris (157 points) and Northwestern (63 points) took second and third, respectively.
MLC men dominate Javelin Throw
MORRIS -The Martin Luther College men's track and field team took fourth at the UMAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at the University of Minnesota, Morris Saturday, led by a dominant performance by the Knights in the Javelin Throw.
The Knights took home the top three places in the Javelin Throw. John Wildauer took first with a throw of 48.07 meters, just .02 meters ahead of Philip Loescher , who finished second with a throw of 48.05 meters. Micah Foelske took third in the Javelin with a throw of 45.96 meters.
Both Loescher and Foelske also finished in the top five of the Javelin event at the conference meet last year, with Loescher taking third and Foelske finishing fourth.
Jarrod Pfarr also gained points for MLC, taking third place in the long jump with a top jump of 5.83 meters.
Wildauer also took home a sixth place finish in the 400-meters and an eighth place finish in the 800-meters.
In other running events, Noah Willitz finished seventh in the 800-meters.
MLC finished the meet with 32 points. St. Scholastica placed first with 247 points. UM-Morris and Northwestern took second and third with 194 and 109 points, respectively.
