Vernard "Vernie" Fischer

GIBBON - Vernard "Vernie" Fischer, 82, of Gibbon died Monday, April 30, 2012, at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Friday, May 4, at St. Willibrord's Catholic Church in Gibbon with Father Jeff Horejsi celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery in Gibbon.

Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday and from 7:30- 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon. There will be a parish prayer service at 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Vernie is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and JoEllen Fischer of Gibbon; grandchildren, Erica Fischer, Andrew Fischer, Kyle Fischer; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Aubrie, Abiana and Kaiden Fischer; sister, Mary Ann Falk of New Ulm; brother, Leo Fischer of Gibbon; sister-in-law, Bernice Fischer of Gibbon; nieces; and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Hildegard Fischer; and brothers, Francis, Larry, Eddie and Leonard Fischer.

Vernard Andrew Fischer was born on June 25, 1929 in Sigel Township, Brown County to Frank and Alma (Liesenfeld) Fischer. He served in the U. S. Army. Vernie farmed in Severance Township, Sibley County until retiring. He also had worked for Ray Fenske Trucking. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren. Vernard was a member of St. Willibrord's Catholic Church in Gibbon.
