NEW ULM - The New Ulm boys track and field team is hoping to get its lineup settled at the midway point of the season.
On Monday, the Eagles took another step in that direction with another strong showing, this time winning its own track and field invite with 206 points.
The Eagles held off Minnesota Valley Lutheran (149), Windom Area (65) and Springfield/Cedar Mountain/Comfrey (49) to win the event.

The Eagle boys had several individuals that shined on Monday, one of them being Andy Hawkins. Hawkins was second in the 100-meter dash (11.71) and was part of the first-place 4x100 team that won in 46.79. He also was second in the long jump with a mark of 18-feet-1.5 inches, behind teammate Adam Wenzel (19-1.5), and second in the 200-meter dash (23.66), behind MVL's Matt Tessmer (23.25).
Tessmer also had a big day for MVL, winning the 400-meter dash (52.01) and the 100-meter dash (11.51).
MVL's Justin Steffl claimed the 1,600 meter run (4:55.62) ahead of teammate Daniel Stelljes and also won the 3,200 in 11:15.99. In the 1,600, the two traded the lead before Steffl pulled away at the end.
"Me and Dan try to push each other in practice and meets," Steffl said. "Sometimes we can kind of tell what each other is going to do, but we just try to push each other."
On the girls' side, MVL breezed past the competition and scored 189 points to win. SCMC (104), New Ulm (98) and Windom (86) rounded out the competition.
For the girls, Ashley Evers shined for the Chargers, taking home three-first place finishes individually. The MVL 4x800-meter relay team took first in 11:00.78 and Evers won the 100-meter hurdles in 16.8, the 200-meter dash (27.4) and the 300-hurdles (49.31). Martha Balge won the 1,600-meter run, ahead of teammates Brianna Holmeier and Laura Schoenherr. Holmeier won the 800-meter run (2:42.32)
SCMC's Karli Kelly took home three firsts, winning the triple jump (34-4.75), the long jump (15-8) and the high jump (4-8). Kylee Wells took the 100-dash in 13.07.
New Ulm's 4x200 relay team won in 1:57.72 and the 4x100 relay team took first in 54.96. Amber Gutzke won the 400-meter dash in 1:04.38.
