PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Pelzel pitches shutout

St. Mary's 11, Sleepy Eye 0

SLEEPY EYE - Laura Pelzel pitched a complete-game shutout while striking out 12 batters and allowing just one hit to lead Sleepy Eye St. Mary's over Sleepy Eye on Monday in a Tomahawk Conference softball game.

Maddy Helget was 2-for-3 with a triple and a double for St. Mary's and teammate Jenna Hose was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

The Knights will play a doubleheader at Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Thursday and the Indians will host Minnesota Valley Lutheran for a doubleheader on Thursday.

Cathedral 10, GFW 2

WINTHROP - New Ulm Cathedral defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in Tomahawk Conference softball Monday.

Anne Schwarz was 4-for-4 with a three-run home run and Paige Pautzke had two hits and an RBI.

Erin McDurmont had eight strikeouts for GFW.

Cathedral (8-3, 7-2) will play at 6:30 p.m. today at Springfield.

Wabasso 7, BLHS 0

WABASSO - Kimberly Frank pitched a two-hit shutout to lead Wabasso to a Tomahawk Conference victory against Buffalo Lake-Hector Stewart on Monday.

Frank went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and also had a three-run home run. Teammate Shawna Rogotzke was also 2-for-4.

Jessica Kalenberg and Michaela Maiers each had a hit for the Mustangs. Kalenberg took the loss in a complete-game effort (six innings pitched, eight hits, four strikeouts, two walks).
