NEW ULM - The Royal Tire Company in New Ulm has joined the buckthorn eradication project as a community service.
Two employees at a time will join other local volunteers in removing buckthorn from city parks.
The first effort is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to noon on Tuesday in South Park, located between 17th and 18th South streets. There have been about a half dozen buckthorn removal sessions in South Park; however, lots of buckthorn remains.
Other volunteers are invited to join the Royal Tire crew. If digging or cutting buckthorn trees is too strenuous, you can help by moving the buckthorn to a central pile where city crews can load the brush and haul it to the city burn pile. Participants should wear sturdy shoes and gloves.
