Members of the 1st Battalion, 125th Field Artillery will be returning home to St. Peter and New Ulm today, after nine months of service in Kuwait, providing security during the U.S. troop drawdown from Iraq.
These National Guard troops have been away from their families and their communities for nine months in the service of their country, and they deserve a rousing "Welcome Home" when they arrive.
The National Guard headquarters in New Ulm has given their route as they come into town: Buses will be entering New Ulm at approximately 6:30 p.m. from Highway 14/15 (7th North Street) and turning left (south) on North Minnesota Street. They will turn right on 2nd South Street, and take a right on State Street. The buses will then turn right on 5th North and turn right again, proceeding south on Broadway to the armory.
We encourage everyone to line the streets along the route and get ready with flags, signs and noisemakers to welcome the troops home. Let's show them our appreciation for the service they have provided.
