Josh Wilkening, a board member of the Brown County Republicans of Minnesota, was nominated to participate in the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., this August.
"I feel very honored to be selected to go," said Wilkening. "I'm excited about the opportunity."
Wilkening said he was urged to try for being a national delegate by friends who shared his views. He said he believes his strong support for Ron Paul, who he would like to see elected president, may have helped him get selected.
Wilkening said he plans to encourage votes for ending the federal reserve, re-instituting the gold standard, encourage help for southern Minnesota agricultural needs and efforts to improve health care.
He said he most looks forward to the chance to meet national politicians and learn what he can to bring back to Minnesota. He said he would most like to meet Ron Paul, though he would still be excited to meet Mitt Romney. His unique interest would be in meeting all the potential vice presidential candidates.
He said he is greatly appreciative that Republicans from the First District nominated him and he hopes to make the most out of the opportunity.
