NEW ULM - Two candidates have applied to fill the New Ulm City Council seat for Ward 2 recently vacated by Todd Olson.
Paul Warshauer and Lisa Fischer submitted applications for the Council seat. They will be interviewed by the Council on Monday, April 30. The person selected will serve the remaining two years of Olson's term. The seat will be on the November ballot.
Warshauer is the first executive director of the New Ulm Actors Community Theatre. He has lived in New Ulm for half a year and plans to remain in New Ulm for years to come, according to his application.
His prior experience involves serving on United Way boards and building commissions in several cities.
He applied at the prompting of business owners. If chosen, he would focus on the development of New Ulm's downtown, he said.
Fischer works as a energy services field representative for Missouri River Energy Services. She previously worked with New Ulm Public Utilities from 1987 to 2009 as customer service coordinator and account clerk. She grew up in rural New Ulm and has lived in the city since 1983. She expressed her intention to contribute to the New Ulm community if she would be chosen to serve on the council.
The selected candidate will be appointed at the May 1 meeting of the Council.
