MANKATO - The Republican First District Convention adjourned late Saturday night, unable to pick a candidate to challenge Democratic Rep. Tim Walz for Congress.
After 23 ballots, former State Rep. Alan Quist led State Sen. Mike Parry 137 to 124. The candidates needed 60 percent of the delegate vote to gain the endorsement.
Party leaders will set the date for another meeting in the coming weeks, where delegates will pick up where they left off. A motion for no endorsement, which would leave the candidates to be selected in a primary vote, was defeated.
