Herold Gieseke

NEW ULM - Herold Gieseke, 82, of New Ulm, died Thursday, April 12, 2012, at the Mayo Health Systems in Mankato as a result of a car accident.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 18, at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brighton Township, Nicollet County with Pastor Melvin Schwark officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Herold Wilhelm Gieseke, the son of Hugo and Viola (Scheible) Gieseke, was born on August 24, 1929 at home in Brighton Township, where he lived his entire life. He raised chickens, pigs, and cows and farmed on the home farm. Herold was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brighton Township, where he was a member of the church council and the cemetery board. He enjoyed bowling, woodworking, and watching the Minnesota Twins.

Herold is survived by his sister, Mabel (nee Gieseke) Biel of Richmond; nieces and nephews, Katherine Weekes of Auburndale, Florida, Kenneth (Lois) Biel of Browerville, Margaret (David) Braelgelman of Eden Valley, Charles (Wanda) Biel of Eagle Bend, Elaine (Stephen) Johnson of Willmar, Renee Biel of Litchfield, Patricia Schultz of Eden Valley; 14 great-nieces and nephews; and 15 great-great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to MVL.
