NEW ULM - A burning ban for Brown County is in place today due to the dry environment and projected high winds. Brown County Planning and Zoning and the Brown County Sheriff's Office ordered the open burning ban.
Exemptions for the ban are grills, camp stoves and other similar devices only if the approved "burners' are operated only between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. with a 5-foot area clear of vegetation around the site. Certain clearing burns are allowed if they are approved and if sufficient personnel are present to control the burn.
The ban may be extended, depending on how conditions develop.
Meanwhile, Watonwan County also has a burning ban in effect until further notice. No exemptions were listed in the public notice.
