NEW ULM - The New Ulm Food Shelf took in over 4,300 pounds of food Saturday in a three-hour period during the Scouting 4 Food drive.
New Ulm Scouts went city-wide to pick up bags of food left on the front steps by residents. That collection totaled 4,009 pounds.
In addition, the Scouts in Lafayette collected 377 pounds.
This weekend, a number of churches are having food collections. Several businesses that are collecting food will bring in their donations by the end of the month so all donations will count toward the partial matching grant from Minnesota Food Share.
