PLYMOUTH - The Martin Luther College softball team picked up its first win of the season Friday by the score of 11-10 against Presentation, but then lost games to North Central and Maranatha, both by the score of 5-1.
MLC allowed nine runs in the bottom of the first inning against Presentation, but came all the way back to win the game 11-10.
Starting pitcher Sara Willems struggled, allowing nine runs in 2/3 of an inning of work, but Laura Miller pitched 6 1/3 innings and allowing only one unearned run. She struck out five and allowed only three hits to pick up the win.
Sarah Free finished the game 1-for-4 with three RBI, and also set the school record for doubles in a career with 35.
NO. CENTRAL 5, MLC 1
The Knights fell behind 5-0 and weren't able to get enough going offensively in a 5-1 loss to North Central.
Free pitched six innings for MLC, allowing all five runs (four earned) as she picked up the loss.
MARANATHA 5, MLC 1
MLC left 10 runners on base in a 5-1 loss to Maranatha in the final game of the tournament.
Free had four hits for MLC, but the Knights were outhit 11-8 for the game.
Miller got the start on the mound, allowing five runs (all earned) and picked up the loss.
The Knights, who return to action on Thursday against Macalester, dropped to 1-5 on the season after the three games.
