SLEEPY EYE - Republicans from all over Minnesota's First District will descend on Sleepy Eye today for the Brown County Minnesota Republican BPOU Convention.
The purpose of the convention is to select delegates for the Minnesota Republicans' district and state conventions. The convention will also cover voting for the Brown County Republicans' suggested additions to the state party's platform.
The anticipated roster of Republican speakers is Brown County legislators Rep. Paul Torkelson (R-St. James) and Sen. Gary Dahms (R-Redwood Falls) alongside First District candidacy competitors Sen. Mike Parry (R-Waseca) and Allen Quist. Each will make a brief speech about their campaigns.
Parry and Quist will be battling it out for Republican support and delegates ahead of the Republican Party of Minnesota's nomination for the First District race. Each are seeking to pick up delegate support.
The event will be held in Sleepy Eye at the Orchard Inn. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the convention will begin at 9 a.m. The event is estimated to last until 1 p.m.
