Questions on Voter ID amendment

March 10, 2012
The Journal

To the editor:

There has been much said about voter ID and we can be sure that there is a high probability that we will hear a lot more. The Republican party is still talking about a constitutional amendment and now the DFL party is proposing an alterative plan.

There are some question about voter ID that come to my mind that need answers.

Q: If a voter is using the absentee system to vote; when, where and to whom does the absentee voter show their ID card?

Q: If the voter is using the mail-in voting system to vote; when, where and to whom does the mail-in voter show their ID card?

Q: If your drivers license is expired, do you lose your right to vote?

Q: If you have the wrong address on your drivers license, do you lose your right to vote?

Who knows the answer to these questions? Rep. Mary Kiffmeyer should know, she is the one that is pushing voter ID.

I'm sure that there are many more unanswered question out there about voter ID. How many? Who knows?
