NEW ULM - Coming off of their first loss in 10 games, the Martin Luther College women's basketball team knew they needed to respond. Responding was just what they did as they defeated Presentation College 83-60 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action on senior night.

Playing her last game at home for MLC, Erica Babinec scored 14 points in the first half of play to give the Knights a 41-32 halftime edge over Presentation.

The second half was a whole different story. MLC started off the second half strong, and eight minutes into the half it held a 30-point lead at 67-37.

"We really stepped it up on defense (in the second half)," Babinec said. "Number three (Hannah Phillips) came out strong and we did a good job of denying her the ball. Everyone really stepped up on defense."

The Knights held Presentation to just 22 percent shooting in the second half compared to 48 percent in the first half. MLC also shot 50 percent in the second half. Good shooting and outstanding defense combined to give the Knights that 30-point lead that was enough to win.

MLC now improves to 15-6 on the year and remains alone atop the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference with a 9-1 record. When asked about the success of the team in her final year, Babinec was all smiles.

"It's been great, I really couldn't have asked for a better senior season," she said. "Our team is fantastic, we all play well, we all work hard every day, and it shows with how we play in the games. It's just been great."

Babinec led the Knights in scoring with 22 points and also grabbed 10 rebounds and had five steals. Kirsten Michael and Brittney Gossen each had 13 points and Amanda Burk added 10.

Hannah Phillips led the way for Presentation with 25 points, while Lindsey Johnson added 14.

MLC travels to Duluth to take on St. Scholastica Friday at 5:30 p.m..
