Pilot lands plane on Hwy 14, then loses control

LAMBERTON - The sheriff's office and Federal Aviation Administration is investigating a plane crash reported at 11:50 a.m. Thursday on U.S. Highway 14 near the Garden Avenue. intersection in Lamberton Township.

Gary Debaun, 63, of Lakeville, was piloting a Pitts Special SPS 1 (fixed wing, single-engine airplane) when he experienced mechanical problems. Debaun landed the plane on Highway 14, then lost control entered a ditch, hit several trees and rolled over. Debaun was alone in the plane and suffered minor injuries. The plane was demolished. The Minnesota State Patrol, Lamberton Fire and Ambulance assisted at the scene.
