To the editor:
On Tuesday, Dec. 20, our New Ulm City Council officially accepted a gift from the Hermann Monument Society as a token of appreciation to the members of the society for their generous gift of $1,162.98, which will pay for 14 days of staffing the kiosk at the Hermann Monument in 2012.
City Manager Brian Gramentz did explain this to the council members but I think it would be good to tell your readers about this idea. When faced with budget cuts that might affect favorite projects, organizations in support of such projects might wish to follow the HMS board's decision to provide some of the money from some other source. It is a worthy idea and there are many other organizations that work hard to provide quality of life programs and projects for our community and it would be great if they would offer monetary support at these times of budgetary problems. Every little bit helps and the dollars given prove that it is a wanted service or program.
