Can your group help the city?

December 13, 2011
The Journal

To the editor:

An Open Letter to New Ulm Organizations:

LOST: Thousands of dollars in State aid for the City's 2012 budget, which will result in severe cuts in some public services.

FOUND: A way for local organizations which depend upon City services to help continue needed services.

The Board of one New Ulm organization has stepped up to help. Thursday I received emails from the entire Board of the Hermann Monument Society, all in agreement that, "It is our duty to help the City in its 2012 fiscal year. It costs Park & Rec $83.07 per 9.75 hour day in salary and benefits to staff the kiosk at the entrance to the Hermann Monument. Therefore, HMS is donatiing two weeks (14 days) of kiosk staffing expense to the City of New Ulm for 2012: 14 X $83.07 =$1,162.98."

How many other groups and organizations can find a way to help? Each dollar will enable the City to continue needed services in some way.

I urge all organizations to consider this bold move by the Hermann Monument Society. Please call in to 359-8233 your donations before 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13 so the City Council can include them into their final budget decisions.

Thank you,

Robert J. Beussman

Mayor,

City of New Ulm
