To the editor:
In cooperation with ISD88, a group of concerned community members has formed an organization called Friends of ISD 88. We were disappointed to see the referendum fail and felt compelled to do something positive in order to minimize the cuts that will be made for the 2012-2013 school year.
First, we want to thank the community for its past support of the public schools - it is always appreciated. At this time, we want to appeal to both individuals and businesses to consider donating to the ISD 88 General Fund. The General Fund supports classroom instruction, student/teacher ratios, course offerings and classroom materials. The donation is 100% tax deductible.
The School Board needs to determine how much money to cut by the end of February. The final budget will need to be voted on and approved by late March. Therefore, the sooner a donation can be given, the more helpful it is for the School Board in terms of planning. However, donations will be gratefully accepted at any time.
We know that all of you realize how important a strong public school system is for this community. We hope that as a community we can all work together to help provide strong public schools for future generations. Donations should be cash or a check made payable to ISD88 General Fund. They should be mailed to:
District Administrative Center
15 North State St.
New Ulm, MN 56073
Thank you for your support.
