To the editor:
This last week I returned to our fair city after another week on the road and what do I read in our local paper? The City Council and some administrative staff want to hire someone to keep track of what our city-owned buildings need. What are you thinking?! First of all who gave you the authority to already have money in the budget for a position not even approved of yet? Secondly, why do we need to hire someone when these buildings already have a maintenance staff, or are you saying they're not smart enough to know what's wrong with the building they maintain already? Thirdly, will the person being hired for this position be coming from outside of our fair city or will this be a good ole boy's network position? I say it should be up to "we the people" to decide one way or another.
While I'm at it city officials, how about this fueling site below German Park for city vehicles? Why is there no containment wall around these tanks, doubled wall or not? First, they're less than 300 feet from a meeting place called the ball park and German Park. I do believe that's against City Code. Second, there is a storm drain inlet that goes directly into the Minnesota River. What happens in case of a leak during refueling of the tanks on vehicles? Third, where is our Environmental Impact Study for this facility? I may have been quiet for the last couple of years, but I'm still watching you!
