MANKATO - Two motorcyclists from New Mexico and Oregon died Wednesday morning in a four-vehicle crash involving a pickup truck, car and two motorcycles near the intersection of U.S. Highway 14 and Nicollet County Road 17.
A 2004 Dodge Ram pickup driven by a 17-year-old male crossed the centerline and struck a 2006 Harley Davidson driven by Lars A. Albrecht, 49, Rio Rancho, N.M.; and a 2005 Honda driven by Robert N. Austin, 61, Canby, Ore. head-on, then hit a 1998 Chevrolet Lumina driven by William G. Gray, 68, Mankato, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Albrecht and Austin , who were wearing motorcycle helmets, died in the crash, according to the State Patrol.
William Gray and Adam Gray, 30, of Mankato had non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester and Mayo Health Systems, Mankato respectively.
The 17-year-old male - whose name will not be released until possible charges are investigated and determined - was transported to Mayo Health Systems, Mankato with minor injuries.
No alcohol was detected in any of the men involved in the crash, according to the State Patrol.
The Nicollet Fire Department, Gold Cross and St. Peter Ambulance, Mayo Air Care, Life Link and the Minnesota Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
