A shocking, horrifying tragedy has New Ulm reeling this holiday weekend, a time when people are usually relaxing and celebrating.
The fire that tore into The Bohemian Bed & Breakfast claimed six lives. The three who have been identified, Bobbi McCrea and her daughters Abby and Savanna, were friends and neighbors to us all. The three who have not yet been identified may be travelers, enjoying a weekend's stay at the Bohemian and exploring New Ulm, or friends who stayed over after taking shelter from Friday night's rainstorm.
The sad death of Bobbi and her daughters is being felt across the country from friends they have made, and even in France, where the host student Bobbi and her fianc Charlie Zangl hosted this past year heard the sad news.
It is amazing how many people and how many lives Bobbi McCrea touched in her 48 years, and the impact she has had on New Ulm since returning to town a few years ago to open a bed and breakfast.
She had the creativity to come up with big ideas for the town, and the energy to get them done. She had the empathy to encourage others who shared her passions for the arts and for making New Ulm a better place.
We join with her friends and family, and the friends and families of the other victims of this terrible tragedy, in mourning their loss.
