Caregiver Support Groups

NEW ULM - Support to family caregivers through resource information, education, and conversation with other caregivers is available through caregiver support groups. Services for Seniors in Brown and Sibley Counties invites you to attend a monthly family caregiver support group. Join us in June:

Gaylord Caregiver Discussion/ Support Group - Wednesday, June 8, at 1:30 p.m., Forever Young Senior Center, 425 Sibley Ave.

New Ulm Caregiver Discussion/ Support Group Monday, June 20 at 1:30 p.m., New Ulm Community Center's Cafetorium, 600 North German Street.

Sleepy Eye Caregiver Discussion/ Support Group - Tuesday, June 21 at1:30 p.m., Countryside Retirement Community, 1100 1st Avenue South, in the library, located on the second level, accessible by elevator.

Flag Day at the Harkin Store

WEST NEWTON - On Sunday, June 12 a Flag Day program will be held from 1-4 p.m. at the Harkin Store.

The Harkin Store will be having information about our nation's flag. How did the flag start? How has the flag evolved? What does the design of the flag mean? What did the flag of the 1870s look like? Our program will answer these questions. The program will be from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

The Harkin Store hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays to Sundays in June, July and August with programs from 1 to 4 on Sunday afternoons. There is an admission to the store, which also includes the program.

Minnesota River Valley Byway Nature Program

FORT RIDGELEY - Saturday, June 11, will be Minnesota State Park Open House day. Admittance to all 66 state parks in Minnesota will be free of charge.

Ron Bolduan will be at Fort Ridgely Historic Site to present a Minnesota Valley nature program. Boludan's photos are filled with natural, cultural and historic sites along the Minnesota River Valley Byway. The program will start at 1 p.m. in the historic commissary.

The program at the commissary will be free admittance.

Other events for the open house day will include a golf tournament at 9:30 and a musical performance by the Kingery family at the park amphitheater at 3 p.m.

Night Out for military families on June 11

MANKATO - Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Committees of Watonwan, Brown and Martin Counties and Rotary District 5950 Area 11 Clubs will express appreciation to all military families in the area on Saturday, June 11.

The organizations are sponsoring a night out at the Franklin Rodgers (The Frank) Park in Mankato.

Families will watch as the Mankato Moondogs take on the Brainerd Lunkers in a North Woods League baseball game.

Game time is at 6:05 p.m. Tickets are $5 per person incuding a pre-game MoonDogs picnic.

Turner Hall Grand Opening

NEW ULM - Turner Hall will host a grand opening of its accessibility project from 5-7 p.m., Sunday, June. 12. The event is open to the public. Cake and coffee will be served. Other beverages and food options will be available.

Turner Hall, located at 102 S. State St., New Ulm, sought private donations and received a Minnesota Historical and Cultural Legacy Grant, which includes an elevator, new restrooms and other updates.

Women of Today garage sale to raise scholarship funds

NEW ULM - The New Ulm Women of Today will be hosting a garage sale on June 11, at 1023 N. Broadway to raise money for a scholarship for a graduation senior of 2012. They will also be hosting a Flapjack fundraiser with Applebee's in New Ulm on June 18, from 8 to10 a.m. to raise money for Relay for Life.

St. Paul's Parish Festival set to go Sunday

NICOLLET - The Church of St. Paul in Nicollet will hold its annual Parish Festival on Sunday, June 12.

Mass is at 10 a.m. A hog roast and BBQ dinner will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children 5-12, and under five, free.

Outdoor entertainment will be offered by the Don and Betty Band from 12:30 to 2 p.m. There will be a Curiosity Shop, Craft Sale, bingo, kids game, Bucket Raffle, perennial plant sale, hay wagon rides and more. The Grand Raffle drawing will be at 2:30 p.m.

Music Hall of Fame staffing Cashwise Brat Stand

NEW ULM - The Minnesota Music Hall of Fame will be sponsoring the brat stand at Cashwise on Thursday, June 9, and Friday, June 10, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. The proceeds will benefit the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame.
