Richard G. Vickery, age 94, of Bow Hall, Castletownshend, County Cork Ireland passed away Saturday, April 16, 2011 in Ireland.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2011 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Winona, Minnesota. The Reverend David Arnold will officiate. Friends may greet the family two hours prior to the service and then following the service in the Church basement.
Richard George Vickery was born February 25, 1917 in Newark, New York, the son of Edward and Jeanette (Welch) Vickery. Dick grew up in Newark and graduated from High School in 1935 as Salutatorian of his high school class.

On June 24, 1944 he was united in marriage with Barbara Irene Storms. Dick started as office boy at Knight and Bostwick of Newark, NY and worked his way up to president of the company. He went to work at McConnon & Company in Winona in 1960, later going into partnership with Jim Hauser of Hauser Art Glass in Winona until his retirement in 1976. Dick and Barb moved to Ireland in 1977 and together ran their 17th century home, formerly known as Malmaison, as a bed and breakfast for 33 years where thousands of guests were treated as family, enjoying the immaculately maintained house and gardens and Barbara's legendary breakfasts and home cooked, national award-winning dinners. A lifelong health/fitness enthusiast, he was a swimmer, a bicyclist, a runner, then a fast-walker, and in his later years he and Barb walked 4 miles each day on the coast road. Dick was an avid fisherman all his life - Walleyes in the Mississippi and Salmon in the River Ilen and was honorary president of the River Ilen Anglers Club and a member of the gun club. Dick also enjoyed gardening, reading and especially loved spending time with family and friends.
Dick is survived by Barbara, his wife of 67 years; son James Vickery and special friend Olga Carlson of St. Peter, MN; son David Vickery and his wife Sherri of Berkeley, MI; daughter Patricia Radek of Downers Grove, IL; son Matthew Vickery and wife Jeanne of Sleepy Eye, MN; daughter Mari Vickery Tramontin and husband Walter of San Antonio, TX; granddaughters, Molly Hughes, Shelly Siegel, Kenna Parker, Margaret Radek, Katie Radek, Kathleen Vickery and Melissa Vickery; grandson Matthew S. Vickery II; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Jeanette Vickery; brother William Vickery; daughter Margaret Anne; and son John Edward.
