New Ulm tops St. Peter 5-2

ST. PETER - New Ulm beat St. Peter 5-2 in South Central Conference baseball play Thursday.

Collin Clyne earned the win in relief as he pitched 3 2/3 innings with two hits, three walks and six strikeouts.

Matt Linschied pitched the first 3 1/3 innings.

Adam Loose was 2-for-4, Kaleb Juntunen was 1-for-3 with a double. Zach Hoffmann had a homer, Cole Cihak was 2-for-3 with an RBI?and Tim Kehren was 2-for-3 with a triple. Shane Traulich had a double and an RBI.

New Ulm (3-3, 1-1) hosts Jackson?County Central at noon Saturday at Johnson Park.

Maple River 6, Nicollet 0

NICOLLET - Maple River defeated Nicollet 6-0 Thursday in a Valley Conference prep baseball game.

T.J. Nowak earned the win for Maple River going all seven innings, allowing no runs on one hit with 12 strikeouts.

Jake Stein took the loss going 4 2/3 innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits with five walks.

Nowak had a double and two RBIs for Maple River and Trae Wholer had an RBI.

Matt Christensen had the lone hit for Nicollet.

Nicollet (2-1) plays today at Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton.

C/CM 5, Sleepy Eye 3

COMFREY - Comfrey/Cedar Mountain defeated Sleepy Eye 5-3 Thursday in a Tomahawk Conference baseball game.

Tyler Windschitl got the win for C/CM going all seven innings, allowing two earned runs with eight strikeouts.

Jon Mangen took the loss for the Indians, allowing five runs on five hits with four walks and one strikeout.

Jalen Pietig was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI for C/CM and Josh Hoek was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs.

Nathan Kral was 2-for-2 with an RBI for the Indians.

C/CM (1-6) plays Monday at Minnesota Valley Lutheran and Sleepy Eye hosts New Ulm Cathedral today in a doubleheader.

GFW 9, St. Mary's 5

SLEEPY EYE - Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop defeated Sleepy Eye St. Mary's in Tomahawk Conference baseball action Thursday.

Joe Klenk picked up the win for the Thunderbirds, pitching 5 2/3 innings and struck out five. Bryce Lindemann was 2-for-3 with a double and Klenk was 2-for-3.

Scott Salfer took the loss. He walked seven and allowed eight hits and nine runs in 6 1/3 innings.

Sean Mathiowetz was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs and Adam Sellner was 2-for-4 with triple.

St. Mary's (5-4, 4-4) plays Sleepy Eye Tuesday and GFW (4-3) is at Cathedral Monday.

MVL 4, Springfield 2

Springfield 5, MVL 4

SPRINGFIELD - Minnesota Valley Lutheran and Springfield split a Tomahawk Conference doubleheader Thursday.

In the first game, Nate Miller earned the win for the Chargers. He went the distance, allowing five hits and striking out 10. Mike Salazar took the loss, allowing nine hits and five walks in the complete game.

Ryan Grunke was 2-for-3 with a run and a stolen base and Michael Schlottmann was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs for the Chargers.

For the Tigers, Zach Bisel was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Salazar had a double.

In the second game, Tyler Marz picked up the win, pitching six innings and allowing 12 hits, four runs and he struck out four. Nate Schoenherr took the loss, allowing two runs and two hits in an inning pitched.

Alex Fink picked up the save and was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Jake Menage was 2-for-4 with two runs and a double for the Tigers.

Schlottmann was 4-for-4 and Michael Martens was 3-for-4. Ryan Steffl was 3-for-4 for the Chargers.

Springfield (2-2, 2-2) hosts Wabasso in a doubleheader beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and MVL hosts C/CM Monday.
