NEW ULM Judy Hesse, 66, of Concho, AZ, formerly of New Ulm, died Friday, Feb. 26, 2010 in Yuma, AZ.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 4, at the Schmucker Funeral Service chapel in New Ulm with Rev. Joyce Tollefson Capp officiating. Burial will take place at the New Ulm City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Judy Kay Mooney, the daughter of Jesse and Irene (Sloan) Mooney, was born July 8, 1943 in Oakland, CA. She spent her youth in Modesto, CA where she attended school. After graduating from Downey High School in Modesto, she attended Modesto Junior College. She was united in marriage to Gary Hesse on April 3, 1965 in Reno, NV. They made their home in Modesto for a short time before moving to New Ulm in July 1965. In January 1966 they moved to Ceres, CA where they remained until 1989. That year they moved to Turlock, CA. Her husband died July 13, 1996. The following year she and her daughter returned to New Ulm where they resided until 2004. Judy purchased a motor home and traveled extensively for the next several years. She was the office manager for the Froba, Frailing & Rockwell law firm in Modesto, CA. She loved her dogs and volunteered many hours with the Humane Society. Judy enjoyed travel, reading, kayaking and playing games. She won many first place trophies for her crocheting. She attended the most recent NASCAR race.

Survivors include her daughter Michelle Hesse of San Diego, CA; brother Jesse Mooney, Jr. and his wife Brenda of Modesto, CA; brothers-in-law, David Hesse, Steve Hesse and his wife Jennifer, Leo Hesse, all of New Ulm; sisters-in-law, Donna Holm and her husband James, Rita Filzen, Lois Keute and her husband Arlyn, all of New Ulm; special cousin Nancy Orand and her husband Bob of Bakersfield; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to her husband and parents, Judy was preceded in death by a brother Max Mooney and brother-in-law Richard Filzen.
