NEW ULM - Steven R. Christensen, 58, of New Ulm, died Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at his home from brain cancer.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Tim Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the New Ulm City Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Wednesday. Steven is survived by his wife, Kathy Christensen of New Ulm; daughters and sons-in-law, Tawnya and Jim Peterreins of Farmington, Jennifer and Kyle Kapolczynski, Tami and Josh Kamrath all of New Ulm; sons and daughter-in-law, Chad and Lisa Christensen of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Jared Christensen and his fiance, Jayme Curry of St. Cloud; grandchildren, Amber Christensen, Andrew Curro, Breishen Peterreins, Carter Peterreins, Parker Kapolczynski, Piper Kapolczynski, Dominick Kamrath, Paisley Kamrath, Tyla Kamrath; parents, Richard and Ramona Christensen of Willmar; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth and Tom McNamara of Mankato, Mary and Jerry Griffin of Minnetonka; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Jenifer Christensen of Westboro, Massachusetts.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Steven Richard Christensen was born on January 5, 1952 in St. James to Richard and Ramona (Meyer) Christensen. They moved to Lake Lillian in 1956, and he attended kindergarten through 8th grade and then 9th and10th grade in Willmar. In 1968 they moved to New Ulm and he attended and graduated from the New Ulm High School in 1970.

On November 1, 1975 he was united in marriage to Kathy Bratsch at theFirst Covenant Church in Willmar. Steven worked at Kraft in New Ulm from 1970 to 1972 and attended South Central Technical College in Mankato andgraduated with a degree as an Electronic Technician. From 1972 to 1973 he worked at Control Data in Redwood Falls.He started working at 3M in New Ulm in July of 1973 and continued to work there until Nov. 1, 2009 when he retired due to failing health. Steven was registrar for the New Ulm Hockey Association for 4 years and had served as president of the association for 1 year. He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in New Ulm.
