SPRINGFIELD - Edward "Eddie C." Sellner, Jr. of Springfield, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 26 at the New Hope Community Church in Sleepy Eye with Pastor Doug Clevenger officiating. Burial will follow in the Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 25 and will continue for one hour prior to the time of the service at the church on Tuesday. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Eddie is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Dave Hagen of Zimmerman, Susan and Jerry Meidl of Fairfax, Cathy and Clyde Knadel of New Ulm, Marie and Steve Doll of St. James; sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Jill Sellner of Sleepy Eye, Frank and Lisa Sellner of Waconia; grandchildren, Sid and Julia Hagen, Joey Hagen, Ben Meidl, Annie Meidl, Jesse Deree and fianc, Shelley Gunneson, Jamie Deree, Josh Doll, Sonya Doll, Brittany and Jeff Hamlin, Mike Sellner, Allie Sellner, Megan Sellner, Jaden Sellner; great grandchildren, Lexie Hagen, Jaymes Deree, Jersey Deree, Natalie Deree, Levi Hamlin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred Baker, Leona Platz, Patricia and Ray Seifert, Phyllis Westman, Melania Meyer, Rosella and Jim Stimpert, Joyce and Gary Berg, Beatrice and Thomas Koop; brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Helen Sellner, Florian (Doyle) and Patricia Sellner, Larry and Sandra Sellner; many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents; wife, Bernice Sellner on June 9, 2008; grandchildren, Sarah and Dominic Meidl; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lyle Baker, Vernon Platz, Rita and Christian Seifert, Delbert Westman, Delmar Meyer, Mary Ann and Marlin Rodewald; brother, Raymond Sellner.

Edward Conrad Sellner, Jr. was born on June 27, 1932 in Albin Township, Brown County to Edward, Sr. and Matilda (Seidl) Sellner. On October 10, 1956 he was united in marriage to Bernice Guhlke at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye and they were happily married for 53 years. Eddie hauled gravel for 50 years, hauled milk, plowed and graded township roads and mowed township road ditches. He was also the owner of Eddie C.'s Tavern.

Eddie enjoyed collecting old tractors, going to various casinos, lottery scratch off tickets, attending the Butterfield Thrashing Bee, entering his collector cars and tractors in parades. He especially enjoyed the companionship of his dog Molly, spending time visiting with family and friends, and listening to polka music.

He was a member of New Hope Community Church in Sleepy Eye.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be given to the donor's choice.
