Funeral services for Roy Levik, 81, will be held on Thursday, December 31, at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Interment will take place at Waverly Lutheran Cemetery, rural Trimont.

Roy passed away Saturday afternoon, December 26, 2009 at his home in rural Truman.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 30, from 5-7 p.m. at Zaharia Family Funeral & Cremation Service of Truman and one hour before the services in the church.

Roy Iver Levik was born March 1, 1928 to Iver and Bergetta (Eiane) Levik in Westford Township, Truman, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at Waverly Lutheran Church. He attended Rural School District 107 and Truman High School, graduating in 1947. As a youth, he was active in the Westford 4-H Club and Waverly Luther League. After one year at Waldorf College in Forest City, IA, he returned to the family farm where he farmed until his death.

He was united in marriage to LaDonna Eckstrom on July 26, 1958 at First Lutheran Church in St. James.

As an adult, he served in the Fairmont National Guard, on the Waverly Lutheran Church Council, Westford Town Board, Truman Building and Loan, Luther Memorial Home Board, Fairmont Community Hospital Board and Foundation, and the Martin County Historical Society, where he led the effort to mark the lost towns of Martin County. Roy was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont, the Lin-Hans-Rud Lodge of Sons of Norway, and Compassionate Friends.

Roy will be remembered as a good conversationalist that enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He treasured his Norwegian heritage and enjoyed sharing home-baked goods, lefsa, and candy with friends and relatives.

He is survived by his wife, LaDonna Levik, Truman; daughter Ingrid Gangestad and her husband Nick of Stillwater; son-in-law Wayne Jurgens and his wife Bernie of St. James; grandchildren, Nathan and Matthew Jurgens, and Greta and Jack Gangestad; sister Esther Paulson of Luverne; brothers-in-law, Richard Bock of Richfield and Dale Eckstrom and his wife Marlene of St. James; four nephews and three nieces and their families.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kris Ann Jurgens; sisters, Alma Bock and Norma Levik; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Hjalmar and Lilly Eckstrom; stepfather Alfred Helland; brothers-in-law, Earl Berg and Roy Paulson; and nephew Larry Berg.
