SPRINGFIELD - Evelyn Wersal, age 78, of Springfield, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.
Funeral services will be Monday, Dec. 21, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield with burial at the Springfield City Cemetery. Pastor Carl Seamon, officiating.
Visitation will be Sunday, Dec. 20, from 2 to 5 p.m. and Monday, Dec.21, from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church.

Evelyn Ida Wersal was born Nov. 18, 1931, in Springfield, the daughter of Otto and Martha (Sandman) Krueger. She graduated from Springfield High School and was united in marriage to Florian Wersal on Aug. 18, 1954. Evelyn assisted with the bookkeeping at R & W Feeds along with raising eight children. She was a lifetime resident of Springfield and a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Evelyn was a member of the Springfield American Legion Auxiliary #257, a lifetime member of the Brown County Chapter #15 DAV, and the Prairieland POW Chapter, serving as adjutant. She enjoyed puzzles, embroidery, crossword puzzles, gardening, playing cards, and the company of her cats. Evelyn especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by husband Florian of Springfield; children: Ron (Sandra) Wersal of Faribault, Dennis (Barb) Wersal of Sanborn, Susan (Ralph) Hillesheim of Sleepy Eye, Jeff (Sandy) Wersal of New London, Lynette (Jeff) Carlson of Springfield, Steve (Heidi) Wersal of Sanborn, James (Cindy) Wersal of Chula Vista, CA, and Kari (Stan) Jung of Warner, SD; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and sisters: Erna Hoecherl, Elsie Roiger, and Elizabeth (Pete) Vanderwerf, all of Springfield. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Ervin Krueger; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
