GAYLORD - A 33-year-old Gaylord man was arrested by police Dec. 2, 2009 in Gaylord for not registering in Minnesota as a sex offender, according to court documents.
Romeo Alba, who lived at 355 2nd St. W. in Gaylord was convicted of a sex offense in the State of Texas that required registration as a sex offender under Minnesota law, according to the complaint.
On Dec. 2, 2009, Gaylord Police received a call from a business who reported a suspicious male party in the building, according to the complaint.
The man matched the description police had of a male involved with harassing juveniles and hanging around with younger girls several times earlier this year in Gaylord and Winthrop, according to the complaint.
Police arrived on scene as the man was leaving and walking east on High Avenue, between 3rd and 4th Streets in Gaylord, according to the complaint.
Police stopped the man and identified him as Romeo Alba, a 5'7", 160-pound man, according to the complaint.
Alba admitted to police that he had been in Minnesota at least since June 2009, according to the complaint.
He left Texas and came to Minnesota without registering as a sex offender, according to the complaint.
Alba was charged Dec. 4 in Sibley County District Court for failing to register as a sex offender, a felony. Maximum penalty is five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.
Bail was set at $10,000 cash and $100,000 bond with conditions.
An omnibus hearing was set for 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 17, in Sibley County District Court.
