NICOLLET - Three real-life sisters who grew up in the Hanska area, formerly known as "The Norvold Sisters," present "Pink Pearls," a holiday variety show at 4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 6 in the Nicollet High School Theater.
The musical group "Sister," Alisa Leonard, Kjersten Dysthe, and Kara Millerhagen will do a theatrical "mixed bag" of original music, regional comedy, and inspirational poetry.
In case you're wondering, it is not a Christmas concert, but rather a theatrical-style show.
After decades of performances, the sisters aren't slowing down.
"Besides managing our households, this is our full-time work, writing, arranging and producing music and live shows," said Millerhagen.
Madelia High School graduates, the sisters now live in the Twin Cities south Metro area with their spouses and children.
"We're family. We help raise each other's kids, laugh a lot and really have a good time," added Millerhagen, who majored in theater arts at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
"We found our niches in college and pooled our talents to create Sister and run it in 2000," said Millerhagen.
Kjersten majored in mass communications at Moorhead State University.
Alisa's major was vocal performance at Augsburg College.
The sisters sang together as youngsters and performed in high school plays before performing as The Norvald Sisters in the early 1980s.
They performed a musical revue of cover tunes several times at New Ulm's Heritagefest and at the Brown County Fair.
Now they do their own music and cite much of their show to their roots.
"We trace our success to our southern Minnesota roots and honor this strong foundation of family and community," said Millerhagen. "Our holiday shows highlight scenes from our childhood that unfold through our voices and those of our 'aunts,' featured characters in the show."
They travel often on weekends.
On Saturday afternoon, they drove to Osseo, Wis. to perform at a high school art series.
After Nicollet, they'll appear at Niesen's in Savage on Dec. 10-11 and 17-18.
