SLEEPY EYE - Walter "Wally" W. Trebesch, 92, of Sleepy Eye, Minn. died on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009 at Sleepy Eye Medical Center.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday at Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye with The Clergy Pastor Kevin Draper officiating. Interment will be in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. E-mail condolences may be sent to the family via www.sturmfh.com
The family would prefer memorials be made in lieu of flowers to St. John's Lutheran Church, Sleepy Eye Historical Society, Sleepy Eye Medical Center, Country Side Apartments, the Sleepy eye Care Center or the donors choice.
Wally was born July 17, 1917 on the Century Farm (1879), Leavenworth Township to William F. & Martha (Youngman) Trebesch. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church. He attended Brown County School District No. 44 and St. John's Lutheran School.
He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Olson on Nov. 4, 1945 at Albion Lutheran Church and had four children. Wally was the third generation of Trebeschs to farm the Century Farm. He farmed until 1981 when he moved to Sleepy Eye. Besides farming, he owned and operated the "Trebesch Car Wash" for 18 years.
He served four terms on St. John's Church Council and School Board and was an officer of the United Fund and Farm Bureau. In 1995 he and Mary Ann received the Sleepy Eye Area Chamber of Commerce Award. His passion was working at Corn Days. He was a member of Sleepy Eye Chamber of Commerce, Sleepy Eye Golf Club, Sleepy Eye AFS and Brown County and Sleepy Eye Historical Societies. He spent many hours working at the Depot Museum, enjoyed working and promoting the Great Grass Roots Gathering and other benefits.
His hobbies were his grandchildren, golfing and fishing. Wally relished his two great grandsons.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann of Sleepy Eye, children, David (Janice) of Hudson, Wis., Gayle of Minneapolis, Brenda Trebesch (Greg) Heberlein of St. Paul, Richard (Connie) of rural Sleepy Eye, grandchildren, Cole (Miranda) and son, Oliver Cole, Sarah (Matt) Feucht and son, Wyatt Lee, Hannah Trebesch, Evan and Eleanor Heberlein, step-grandchildren, Sherryl (Michael) Frederick and sons, Jonathon and Jason, Michael (Theresa) Blok and daughter, Amanda, Jennifer (Thomas) LaTour and sister-in-law, Bernice Trebesch Syverson of New Ulm. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Alfred and Wilbert, sister, Mabel and sister and brother-in-law, Violet and Delbert Meinert.
