Ruth Anna Niemann Hopp passed away at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Arizona early Thursday afternoon October 29, 2009 following a brief illness.
Ruth, the youngest of Henry and Clara Niemann's seven children, was born February 24, 1928 in Hanover, Kansas. She married Wallace Hopp in the summer of 1948 in Hanover and together they created a successful dairy farm and raised their family in Nicollet County, Minnesota. Ruth was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in the town of Nicollet where she was an active member of the Ladies Guild.
After almost twenty years wintering in Arizona with their daughter Jane and her family, Ruth and Wally moved to Arizona in 2008 where they joined the Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Mesa. Ruth loved playing games on her computer, sitting on the patio early in the morning and at sunset, occasional drives to play Bingo, and playing with Dublin and Baci, her granddaughter's two Shichon puppies.
In early 2009 Wally passed away in his sleep. In addition to her husband of 61 years, Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Clara and Henry Niemann, her sisters Viola Scheele and Eleanora Niemann, and her brothers Henry, Fred and Ernest (known to all as Ernie).
She is survived by her daughter Jane Carland and son-in-law James Carland, M.D. of Scottsdale, Ariz., and their children Jill McCanse and Julie Carland of Phoenix, Ariz.; and by her son Glendon Hopp and daughter-in-law Donna Hopp of Winona, Minn., their children Jeff Hopp and Amy Cain, and their grandchildren Ethan Cain and Macy-Jean Cain; and by her sister, Margaret Munstermann of Beatrice, Neb.
Memorial services were held for family and friends in Arizona at the Bunker Garden Chapel at 33 N. Centennial Way in Mesa on Tuesday, Nov. 3 and funeral services will be held Saturday Nov. 7 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Nicollet, Minn. with visitation in the Church narthex at noon and services at 1 p.m. Burial at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery following the service.
